On February 25, 2022, Tony d'ALETTO, Nuclear Counsellor at the French embassy in Beijing/CEA representative in China, Xavier ASSFELD, Scientific Consul at the French consulate in Shanghai, and Jean-Marie BOURGEOIS-DEMERSAY, French Dean of IFCEN, visited ShanghaiTech University. VP ZHU Zhiyuan, VP JIANG Ge, representatives from the Office of International Affairs, Office of Undergraduate Programs, and Office of Research attended the meeting.
In the morning, NIE Yan, Deputy Director of the Office of International Affairs, extended a warm welcome to the French delegation and briefly introduced the history, discipline layout, student training, international exchange and research achievements of ShanghaiTech. Following this, the French delegation visited the School of Physical Science and Technology, Institute of Mathematical Sciences, School of Information Science and Technology and School of Life Science and Technology. Many of the faculty members and staff who hosted the reception once studied and worked in France. They presented an overview of the features and facts of the schools and institute to the French guests, showed them the advanced experimental equipment, and shared their research progress and experience in France.

Later in the afternoon, ZHU Zhiyuan, JIANG Ge and representatives of offices held a meeting with the French delegation. The two sides had a full discussion on education and research cooperation and other topics. ZHU Zhiyuan pointed out that both ShanghaiTech and the French side are highly concerned about the field of low-carbon energy, with a shared understanding in cultivating top international talents together. Tony d'ALETTO mentioned the fundamental research, talent training, low-carbon energy and technology development of CEA, as well as its significant role in the energy transition of France. Jean-Marie BOURGEOIS-DEMERSAY conveyed the willingness of Grenoble INP and ENSCM to cooperate with ShanghaiTech in terms of collaborative student training and faculty exchange.
This visit has enhanced mutual understanding and laid a foundation for further cooperation between ShanghaiTech and top French universities and research institutions.
